anneemaye replied to your post: Not a Thor/Sif fan?

I’m actually intrigued! I don’t have an opinion on her in the comics one way or another (I LOVE film Sif, but many of the characters in the film’re so different from the comics that I don’t compare them), so I’m interested to hear what you think!

I don’t mind movie Sif at all. But we really didn’t get to see enough of her for me to form an opinion. I’m indifferent as far as the film goes.

But the comics…

Ugh.

My hate started with an amazing comic called “Blood Brothers”, (Loki #1-4). It was explained that Sif wished to come between Thor and Loki and split them up because she wanted more of Thor’s attention for herself, that’s why Loki cut off her hair. He cut it off in hopes of severing the bond between Thor and Sif so that his and Thor’s brotherhood could remain in tact. (Sif bragging about how her black hair brought her and Thor closer together didn’t exactly help either).

Besides this, she annoys me in general. For some reason I think back to the “Son of Asgard” comics. It takes place when they were all younger and she’s just so protective of her crush on Thor but at the same time she wants to keep her dignity in tact as a warrior and swears that she left her female traits behind. God, I don’t know, she’s so hypocritical.

In the normal runs she just seems stuck up to me. To me, she comes off as the type who thinks she is better than every one else just because she is a woman that was able to become a warrior. (Not to mention her head is even more full because her husband is the god of thunder).

In my opinion, Thor deserves so much better, especially in volume 3. I wish they weren’t canon. (That’s actually why I support Thor/Jane way more than I should). But Thor/Storm could be interesting, I haven’t read anything with the two of them yet, (though I was told they once had a relationship of some sorts), so I’m not sure if I ship it yet.

Only time can tell.

Ditto Comic!Sif is mostly not a good character, she’s very clingy to Thor and is often portrayed as being his armcandy and everything just revolves around him and him alone.

There’s one exception though, Walt Simonson, his Sif is by far the best Sif ever! And she was also the first comic interpretation of the character that I read (which set me up for a disappointment when I saw how every other writer treated her).

I mean she’s emotionally mature (so was his Thor for that matter) and her whole personality didn’t revolve around Thor, as a matter in fact she asked him for a time when he had hit her while he was in Lorelei’s spell (Surprisingly not a lot of drama came out of this, Sif and Thor handled it like adults). She was awesome and kickass warrior who could handle herself, wasn’t mopey, and just plain awesome!

But yeah every other portrayal of Sif I’ve read falls short from Simonson’s Sif and Movie!Sif.

I haven’t read a lot of Thor comics, but I liked her in the movie (agreed that I wish I saw more of her) and really, I didn’t notice enough of her in the main Thor run to get a good opinion. I always thought I related to her in a way, being a girl who grew up with only guys my age, being a tomboy and being a fighter (martial artist), but all the points, now that I’ve read them, I really do notice them. I liked Son of Asgard, but I hated how easily she compromised so much of her character just to get Thor to notice her. It was petty in my opinion.

But anyway, I may look more into this. With Jane, she always seemed too caught up on Thor to be interesting. Just wasting away because she never got him. Like leaving her husband just because Thor returned. But then again, as I said, I haven’t read enough comics.

Anyone recommend good Jane-centric ones to get a wider view of her character? Lord knows I ship them pretty hard in the movie-verse.

After Odin dies and prior to his funeral, his sons Thor and Loki reminiscence about their time with their father. This was a good issue, I liked it, not a lot of word balloons but they weren’t needed and it was really emotional. Also Loki really does care about Odin after all.

Also Loki and Thor as kids were cute. I kind of like how this flips the whole dynamic of Thor being the leader and Loki the follower with Loki being the one who takes direction and manipulates the more insecure Thor into doing things with him.

From Thor vol. 2 #44 (worth a look since I cut Balder and Sif’s memories of Odin and the whole funeral).

Aw Thor’s face after he kills the deer D: > it’s okay pal.

I was dealing with the women who watched the Thor movie and fell in love with Loki. He may be attractive to them and I can understand that completely. Although I don’t really find him attractive, I must admit that he does have a nice smile. But this post! This post drew the line!

Loki was NOT thinking about Thor when he said that! He knew that if Thor destroyed the bridge his plan would have been ruined. He tried to use Thor’s love for Jane Foster to his advantage. HAVE YOU READ ANY OFTHE COMICS?! AT LEAST WATCH A COUPLE OF ANIMATED MOVIES! Loki is a selfish, grimy, manipulative being. True most of the problems he has aren’t his fault, but he’s still a bad person. He’s a villain for a reason.

I’ve just decided (I may sound like a dick saying this) that people who know nothing about a comic book character should not see their live action movie. Why? Because they have no real idea of what’s going on and the outcome are posts like the one above.

I love you for this! I don’t agree with all of it because I do actually find this Loki VERY attractive and he is a tragic character. But to the core, he’s a villain, not just a victim.

What is that object you see? Can it be a ship? Or does it look something from the realm of Asgard?  Let the speculations begin!

Let us know your thoughts on what this vehicle could be.
